Upscale Women’s Pirate Costumes

Women’s pirate costumes can look plain and cute but a little boring.  However, in the pictures of upscale women’s pirate costumes below, you’re seeing this year’s tremendous variety that are available.  To view the elegant costumes below and many others, Visit This Page!

Adult pirate costumes express lots of different styles and appearances these days. While these costumes pictured here are upscale costumes, the links above will let you have a real opportunity to be, dare I say :) , daring with a little risqu’e attitude as these women pirate costumes can show.  The costumes listed here can be one part treacherous and two parts hot while at the same time looking like you just stepped out of Vogue magazine!  I think that is why the above costumes can create “The Perfect Storm” of fashion…elegant and yet very sensual!

I believe that the hat is what sets most upscale female pirate costumes apart from other plain costumes.  The traditional hats of pirates in the movies cannot compare to the ones that you are viewing above or at the links provided.  Men that I know notice a woman in an elegant hat….that may sound odd, but the males in my life say that a sharp stylish hat and great looking boots sets a woman apart.

I find it amazing how our knowledge of pirate costumes is so limited…from eye patches, vests, boots, and bandanas, the costumes you routinely see are just so ordinary.  These items are great for the children and teens, but adult pirate costumes can be experimented with… even to the point of having private moment if one chooses to do so.  I dare say that adult pirate costumes for women have more room for experimentation and excitement than men’s pirate costumes do.  So for most people, they can have the witch, nurse, movie star, vampire costumes this halloween… I am encouraging you to try the beautiful costumes shown here.  By the way, many people have asked me about the costume sizes.  The pirate costumes come in various sizes and are also offered in plus sizes for women.

Pirate costumes were really not popular before the release of Pirates of the Caribbean. This movie trilogy (soon to be a fourth one I hear!) gave a new popularity to pirate costumes. Because of Disney Films making the three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, pirate costumes have risen in popularity and acceptance. Just look around…have you ever attended a Halloween costume party event where pirate costumes were not present? There are countless pirate costumes made available. I have seen more ‘plain Jane’ costumes then I can remember. Sometimes, girls pirate costumes can be a skirt or dress instead of pants and shirts. Body fit pants can be a great substitute when you think of pirate costumes. Some of the lower priced pirate costumes are among the cheapest Halloween disguises that you can find. That is why I am glad that I found the above upscale women’s pirate costumes.

High Quality Pirate Costumes

I like these costumes as they are high quality pirate costumes!  Just Click Here and read what people are already saying about the quality of these costumes…

My friends and I have been really impressed with the quality of the material, stitching and wear-ability of the pirate costumes.  I had to run through the pouring rain last year and when I got home, my costume was in great shape.  I was hoping the it wouldn’t fade on the car seats on the ride home and we were fortunate it did not.  My girlfriends and their husbands also can attest to the fact that they are quality costumes…you get what you pay for.

The only complaint that I have had was one of the costumes came with boots.  They just did not fit right and the zipper was bad in them.  I contacted the company right away and they sent out another pair!  I was impressed with how fast the turn around was. I encourage you to take a look in your closet for some boots that may be a perfect fit for your adult pirate costumes.

My girlfriends and I are always sharing things to help make costumes so use them as a resource as well.  I encourage you to try to make your own if money is tight…it is not that hard with the items you may have on hand.   In fact, high quality pirate costumes can be created right out of your friends’ and family’s closets!

If you are going to try to make your own quality costume, there are a few steps that you must take in order to fully utilize the pirate costume ideas.  A pair of old black or white or  black striped pants can be used and you can simply decorate with various ‘bling’ you have around the house like old chains, rings, ear rings, etc…  You can cut the pants part way up the leg creating short or long frays across that area.  A loose fitting shirts can be used and look for stripes if possible.  Using large metal belt buckles, pirate eye patches and scarf tied to your head will put the finishing touches on this beautiful costume.  The more fancy and elegant your supplies and makeup for the costume, the more positive the comments at your next party or trick-and-treat night with your kids!

Sexy Pirate Costumes

We have a great selection of sexy pirate costumes.  Sexy costumes are usually sought after by women for those special occasions in their lives.  Obviously, sexy is individually defined from person to person so where someone may really like the costume, others may not.  I encourage you to research the many selections we have here for our various sexy female costumes.

Halloween can be a great time to unveil that sexy pirate costume but while you are looking for that perfect pirate costume, keep in mind that you can also use sexy costumes for other areas of your life!

First, let me encourage you to get into the proper frame of mind before you purchase sexy Halloween costumes.  You need to play the part of you and your partner’s fantasy long before buying the sexy costumes.  Playing the part of the sexy girlfriend or sexy housewife and dressing up in costume during Halloween will give you memories that you both will never forget :) so be sure that you are picking what you  and your partner will want to wear…either at home in the privacy of your room or to that sexy Halloween party you are planning.

2nd, choosing the right sexy costume for you and your mate has to have some forethought.  If you do not relish wearing sexy pirate boots, sexy nylons or any part of sexy outfits, make sure you do not purchase them.  There is nothing worse than adding something to your sexy clothes only to find out that you are extremely uncomfortable in it for the next few hours.  Also, consider the activities you will be performing during this event. Will you be dancing in this sexy fantasy?  Will you be doing other strenuous activities that will require that your sexy wench costume needs to remain in place no matter how active you get?  Keep the activity level in mind when you are picking the pieces to your sexy outfit.

3rd, be sure that you get plenty of pictures!  Sexy Halloween pictures can be enjoyed for years to come!  Be sure that your cameras are fully charged and that you take an extra set of batteries and even another camera with you in case the batteries die or your camera does.  You don’t want to risk not being able to take sexy Halloween pics on your night’s events.  If you will be taking say pictures of women pirates or sexy guy pirates in your house or club, be sure that you have a camera that takes photos in low light.  Every club I have ever been in was mostly dimly lit.  You will either need a flash or a camera that can take low light photos.

4th, but certainly not last, be sure that your partner is turned on by what they, and obviously you, are going to wear for the night.  YOU may think those sexy nylons are great but they may not.  My lover hates the look of white nylons.  I sure wouldn’t want my love to see me in them for the night.  You, on the other hand may love them…to each their own BUT make sure that your significant other also likes what you will be wearing in order to complete the fantasy for both partners.

Whatever the role that you will play in your fantasy, the object is for both of you to have a time that you will never forget and puts a smile on your faces every time you reminisce of this time in your lives!

The sexy female pirate costumes are great for that pirate themed party that you may attend this year.  With that in mind, your costume should not be just revealing and beautiful but is must be comfortable as well.  After all, you don’t want to be at a wonderful party and too soon feel like you need to leave because your costume is uncomfortable! :)   Click on the above links that will take you to where you can read about what others said that have worn them.  This will give you great ideas of what you can expect from the costumes.

Different pirate costume ideas can be implemented for parties of different kinds…private and groups. A group of friends can coordinate their look and opt for some really great costumes.  Imagine what it will be like if 4 or 5 of your friends all walked into the next Halloween party with  stunning sexy group pirate costumes on!

Imagine paring one of the above sexy costumes with a mens pirate costumes.  My husband and I won a local award with the costumes we bought!  People ask me every year where I got the beautiful pirate outfit that was the talk of the community for months after the party.  I was so comfortable in it.  I was worried that I would not be but it fit me perfectly….I am so glad I bought them.  My husband was very pleased with his.  He said the pirate boots that we bought separately took some time to get use to (a tennis shoe man through and through! ) but said they weren’t uncomfortable.

When I was doing research on these sexy pirate’s, I came across a love story about a famous Irish female pirate named Grace O’Malley.  Here is a romantic story about her life and times.  I have included a video and transcribed it for you so that you can either read it or watch the video!

Grace O’Malley Pt. 2 (you will find the first part on the front page)

She had to be successful. She had to pay them (her male pirates).

The English administrators in Ireland were firmly entrenched in the main port of Galway City and squeezing high taxes from the O’Malley shipping trade. Up the coast in Clew Bay, Grace was about to become a thorn in the side of the all powerful English navy.

Grace began extracting fees from the increasing traffic of merchant ships under English protection sailing through O’Malley territory. Her great advantage was her knowledge of the unusual geography of Clew Bay. With over three hundred islands it is a maze of hidden inlets and narrow channels, the inner bay is shallow and in a rapid change in depth from high to low tide. The submerged sandbars and rocks became death traps for ships who dared to take on Grace in her home waters.

Grace had several large ocean-going galleys in her fleet but one of the most effective weapons amongst the islands were the smaller locally built work boats. In these quick and highly maneuverable sailing craft, Grace and her men would attack in numbers. Lying in wait, Grace would pounce on the larger less maneuverable ships like hornets swarming over their larger prey.

The English who considered all of the ocean the property of Queen Elizabeth called Grace’s activities piracy. Grace saw it as the family rite and the O’Malley trade was booming. She was quickly earning a reputation among rival English captains as a “Chief Director and Commander of Thieves and Murders at Sea”. Grace’s father Black Oak died when she was in her late 20′s and his daughter, already Commander of the fleet and a mother of three, staked her claim to take his place as Chieftain.

Ann Chambers, Biographer narrates…”In terms of becoming a Chieftian in Gaelic Ireland, no women could become a Chieftain. But Grace O’Malley simply took what was denied her by law and she said, Well I am a Chieftain. I have earned my right to be a Chieftain and if the law doesn’t like it then that’s tough on the law.”

Lucy Lawless continues: Grace was excelling in a man’s world. She fought with them and went to sea with them for months on end. But it would be a mistake to think that she was just living a man’s life. There were many sides to Grace and some of them were all women.

Ann Chambers, Biographer narrates…”The feminine side of Grace O’Malley is very interesting. We know for a fact that she had at least one lover in her life and there was a suggestion that she may have had and illegitimate child. It was a very liberal society in many respects. The Christian ethos here was interpreted in a totally different way than was intended by the Roman church. Everybody gave it a very wide interpretation in their own personal lives. She is very much part of her culture and part of her background and I don’t see any reason why she would not have availed to have a relationship outside of marriage if it suited and when it suited her own purposes.”

Lucy Lawless continues: Legend fills in the details of one of Grace’s romantic conquests. She had word of a ship that had floundered off of Akel Head in a storm. Setting out with her men they scoured the coast looking for spoils of the wreck that had washed up among the rocks. Grace came across a nearly drowned man, a foreigner by the name of Hugh de Lacy thought to be the son of a wealthy merchant. Grace decided that he was worth salvaging. Taking Hugh back to Clare Island she nursed him back to health and they became lovers.

Ann Chambers, Biographer narrates…”So you have Grace O’Malley very much as a woman enjoying really the fulfillment of her woman-hood to its nth degree. In a way, she was really a fully rounded human being when you think of it. She had both sides to her, a male and a female side and really, I suppose, enjoyed both to the fullest extent.”

Lucy Lawless continues: I am sure that Hugh couldn’t believe his luck falling into the arms of a formidable woman like Grace. Unfortunately their passion was short lived. Just a few months into their affair Hugh fell victim to inner tribal feuding. One day Hugh was out hunting on the mainland when men from a rival clan, the MacMahons, stocked him down and ambushed him. Grace was devastated. The MacMahons were about to feel her wrath. She immediately hunted down and killed the men responsible for Hughe’s death. But still, she was not satisfied. Gathering her warriors she set sail to the MacMahons’ stronghold at Doona in Black Sod Bay to the South and attacked their castle. Raiding among rival clans for castles, land and cattle was common place. The idea of Ireland as a country didn’t exist in this feudal world.

Because she was a woman, Grace was constantly tested by her rivals but they underestimated her at their peril. She routed the MacMahons and installed her followers in her castle earning a new knick-name “The Dark Lady of Doona”. Grace was reaching the height of her power. Grace was the consummate underdog and securing her little empire was a fight every step of the way. Weapons expert Martin Hullihand gave me a hands-on demonstration of Grace’s favorite tools of the trade.

Lucy: So Martin, how’s your guts, man? So do you think that Grace could have held her own with a sword.

Martin: Oh yeah, no doubt about it. She was trained at an early age to use these weapon and then she’d be good. Probably put some men to shame as well.

Lucy: And she fought with two swords?

Martin: Yeah, most of the warriors of that period it was fine. Used together, they were lethal.

Lucy: These are much lighter and shorter than the swords that I have used.

Martin: Yes, they were ideal for fighting from the large ships where you don’t have a lot of space to maneuvering in combat. Inside castles fighting are much easier the shorter the lighter the weapon. And if they’re guerrilla tactics in forests and bogs , you don’t want to be treading around with a great big heavy weapon on you… small weapons… light weapons were ideal.

Lucy: If it is not about brute strength then what did this female pirate woman need?

Martin: Speed and agility and a little bit of common sense. Not so much standing toe-to-toe hacking your opponent down. Getting the opening… getting the knife in… getting the sword in… killing… getting out quick…that is what it was all about.

If your daughter is in her teens, teen girl pirate costumes are very comfortable and easy to use at Halloween or school parties they may be attending. They are cute and manageable and ready to fit the active teen.

My Mom had bought my brother an eye patch one year to go along with his costume but it was too small so I would use his eye patch and one of my Dad’s red handkerchiefs for my head scarf. I looked every bit the pirate when we went out trick-or-treating in our neighborhood.

We had a lot of fun and I enjoyed those times with my family. I use to pile in the back of the station wagon with my brothers and sister with Dad and Mom and they would take us throughout the neighborhoods. We were lucky one year when Dad let us walk home under a moonlit sky.  The last one I remember was when I was just a young girl…it just added to the mystique of Halloween when we did that!

We were fortunate to be able to build memories with our kids. The costumes you see here on this page and the ones on the other pages were such a help to us…I can’t imagine trying to make these costumes! :) They are well made and reusable year after year. However, if you or your daughters have the time to make your own teen girl pirate costumes, just click this link for a YouTube video on a great way to make your own. I was really impressed with how this girl made the costume!

I was doing some research online some time ago and found that there were woman pirates that sailed the seas with the men. I found this great video where two authors and historian discuss the lady pirates of the day and the pirate men who loved them. I have included the transcript of their discussion for you to follow along below the video:

From the video above:

The videotaped discussion is taking place between Andrew Mills, Historian/Author (red hair) and Charles A. Mills, Author of -Legend of Pirate Gold-

Charles: “Well… and you shouldn’t leave out women pirates because there actually women pirates as well.”

Andrew: “That is true. We usually think of pirates as being a boy’s club mentality. You always hear about the male pirates…you hear about, most notably of course, Blackbeard but there are women pirates. Most notably, Anne Bonny, who is the most famous of all female pirates. Her exploits…she was as tough as anyone could get when it came to being a pirate.”

Charles: “That is true but the thing that is really interesting about Anne Bonny is that she came from a very good family. She was born into wealth and she ran away from home. She hooks up with this pirate named Jack Rackham and starts sailing with him. She dresses like a man a fights on the deck with a cutlass and a pistol. Finally off of Jamaica, the entire crew is hung over from a drinking binge the night before, except for Anne and up pops a British Man-of-War. The crew all runs below and hides except for Anne but not withstanding her resistance they take them prisoner. They hang them all except for Anne and she claimed her belly…she was pregnant! So they did not hang her and they were going to wait until after she had the baby but here she vanishes from history. And a lot of people think that her rich father came down, bailed her out, and that she and the baby then returned to a life of respectability, drinking tea and eating biscuits.”

Andrew: “That is an interesting story about Anne Bonny but also interesting is that one of the books up here ‘Blackbeard and Other Pirates’ actually talks about that story and that Anne Bonny on the ship with Rackham was not the only female pirate. They talk about a woman by the name of Mary Read, I believe it is, who basically was raised as a boy for her entire life. She was raised as a boy….she was seen as a house boy a house servant. She learned to fight like a man and when Anne discovered this second women on board, Rackham became jealous because he thought that Anne was having and affair. But when he discovered there is a second woman on board, it’s all of a sudden ‘Oh…not only do I have one female pirate I have two!’ So when a ship gets taken, just imagine the bruised ego of a captain when he finds out that he has to surrender to a woman of all people! Not to sound sexist but at a time where women are traditionally seen as being always at home and never going out to adventuress lifestyle, this is something that would stun society as a whole. And the belly story as well…both woman plead that they are pregnant is something that comes up and off and on they are always going to be executed. But Mary Read disappears from history. Anne Bonny…certainly there is some speculation that she goes back to living with her family and ends up living in South Carolina I believe from what I recall and ends up just raising her family and she has to keep her wild tendencies buried down.

Charles: “You know you talk about capturing these ships and I think what most people don’t realize about pirate battle tactics is they were really just interested in having the ships that they were attacking surrender as quickly as possible. That is one of the reason that they ran up the black flag…if you resist, there will be no quarter. They were trying to scare people into surrender right away. They weren’t too subtle. They were in small ships with narrow drafts so that they could sneak into shallow waters and to coves and inlets. They were not that interested in engaging in battle if they didn’t have to. When they did board, the tactics weren’t very subtle either. Whereas a European gentleman or soldier might have his rapier and run you through, a pirate got there with a cutlass and he was just interested in hacking and he usually would go for your legs. He wanted to disable you and get you out of the fight as quick as possible. Nothing honorable here. Just take care of business.”

Andrew: “Oh…certainly that is very true. Pirate tactics alone…these aren’t stupid men. Let’s face it…usually a merchant ship would know that a pirate ship was hunting them because crews would only number about a dozen men. But if you found a ship overloaded with men, traditionally they always declare that this was a pirate ship now let’s get out of here. But when that pirates would board, certainly you would have the black flag go up… the skull and crossbones and some pirates would change their flag. Blackbeard had a devil with a pierced heart as his flag. And the scare tactic alone would of course be there. Speaking of Blackbeard, here is a man who used scare tactics when it came to theatrics. This is a man who would tie filaments into his hair and his beard and set them on fire! Imagine Black beard boarding a ship in the middle of the night about to take it and all of a sudden you see this man with fiery glow around his face and people believed the devil himself was coming to attack them. And on top of that, he was armed to the teeth as you could get! Cutlasses around his waist…..bandoleers of pistols across his chest, this was a man who was ready to fight and kill you. And so just the shear image of this pirate scares people and literally, it is just all about theater and dramatics. How can you awe your enemies… a ‘shock and awe’ treatment basically.”

Charles: “You know…when they attacked cities, once again, their terrible reputations proceeded them. In many cases the only people defending these especially Spanish colonial cities, were local militia. And nine times out of ten, they were more interested in taking off into the mountains than standing firm against the pirates. Usually the defense of the city would consist of a couple of volleys and then they would take off. Because, as I said, if you got the pirates mad in resisting, they were very apt in slaughtering everyone that they could get their hands on.”

Andrew: That’s true and just imagine living in a town. If a pirate decides to retire in that town, the reputation of that pirate alone…just imagine that you have his ship and you have his crew and he has that fierceness, could almost become your protection in a way because it’s ‘go ahead…I dare you to us, we got this pirate who’s know for sinking your ship after he’s got your surrender just because!’ I mean it’s a mentality like that can use their own success and go ahead and protect you. Now a successful pirate when we think about them always comes down to how much treasure they get. And so, is there really buried treasure out there….I mean do you think there is? We always here legends of it….”

Charles: “Well I think we aught to talk about some of the most successful pirates. I mentioned Drake (Part I)…he certainly accumulated a lot of treasure. I turned that into Queen Elizabeth. Henry Morgan called the ‘Pirate King’. Sacked the city of Panama. He had ten ships and two thousand men…a very successful pirate. Are there really buried treasures? Well, a lot of pirates, especially the ones that you don’t hear about…the ones that aren’t the Drakes, just your run-of-the-mill pirates, they’d spend what they got as quickly as could. You know they’d go drink and wench and do all those pirate things….”

Andrew: “….a nice time at Tortuga (Isle of Tortuga)!”

Charles: “Yeah…but on the other hand these are guys who could die at any time so if they wanted to sock anything away before they went into battle, they could very well decide that I am going to hide it on Tortuga or near a place we often come to. And so there are small treasures that had been found. One of the greatest treasures that had been found occurred in the 1980′s who was called the Whydah and it was the pirate ship of Captain Bellamy. It sank in a storm 1500 feet off the Cape Cod beaches in twenty five feet of water. Treasure hunter Barry Clifford found this in the mid eighties. It’s worth $400 million which will give you some idea of the wealth that they could be carrying. He didn’t have time to spend it and he didn’t have time to bury it.”

Andrew: “….certainly not…. now, when we think of buried treasure every story that comes out you know you have the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean‘ of course we know about that…a good example where a child’s imagination really comes into play is from the 1980′s movie ‘The Goonies’ where they think about buried treasure and the kids just call it ‘rich stuff’ and they just have this idea in their minds of what it could be and low-and-behold they find the treasure of the pirate One-Eyed Willie…what would a traditional pirate loot look like?”

Charles: “Well pieces of eight, doubloons the Spanish gold doubloon which is this little item here and of course the pieces-of eight were silver….and ‘The Goonies’ weren’t so far off because there are actually a couple of treasure islands that treasure hunters are still going to.”

Pirates may not be you or your family’s choice for costumes but I encourage you to take some time to build some memories with your children by picking costumes that start your family’s traditions.  If you are looking for last minute costumes for girls ideas, I encourage you to click on the links provided to the upper right.  There are so many costumes that it will take you a good while to review them for the costumes that best fits your needs.

This is a DoFollow Blog with Comment Luv, Top Commentator, and Keyword Luv Plug-ins

Are you looking for regular “follow links” to your site?  GOOD and WELCOME!

This site runs Top Commentator, KeyWord Luv, and Comment Luv (just a big blog LUV FEST!)  I think that the people who invented these little plug-ins are extremely talented and I want to thank them for inventing these little guys.  I know some of you who are new to all things internet are wondering why I am going on about these 3 plug-ins so much.  Well let me tell you…they are a win-win for you and me….you can never go wrong in this life with some help from someone and in turn helping others!  Paying it forward comes to mind.  Let me give you a little brief instruction (and ending note) on how these plug-ins work and what I expect when you comment on my blog.

First let me address Comment Luv…. When you plug Comment Luv into your blog, you will get a little blurb that reads something like this, “Plugin to show a link to the last post from the commenters blog by parsing the feed at their given URL when they leave a comment. Rewards your readers and encourage more comments.” Tah-dah!  Click Here for an additional explanation.  BTW, this is already loaded into WordPress so all you do when you create a blog is to search in the plug-ins for it.

Here is what Top Commentator has to say…. “Adds a sidebar widget to show the top commentators in your WP site…. .” Click Here to visit the site!  Also, this is already loaded into WordPress so, as with Comment Luv, all you do when you create a blog is to search the plug-ins for it.

And last but not least, you know I had to say it :) , I have included the KeyWord Luv plug-in on my site.  You will have to download this plugin! It is easy to do and you can find it where I found it by Clicking Here .  Here is the little blurb that came with it that helps explain why it is so beneficial to all, “Reward your commentators by separating their name from their keywords, in the link to their website, giving them improved anchor text. For example, leaving ‘Karen @ Female Pirate Costumes’ in the name field, will result in the following: Karen from Female Pirate Costumes .  One more thing, you will need to have enabled a DoFollow plug-in (found in WordPress) in order for KeyWord Luv to work.

Now for my last note that is VERY important….I will have to delete any comments that I deem inappropriate or that are of low quality (example…nice site! -The End-, or, Wow…-The End-) :)   If you stay on topic and simply add to the original post, your comments should be approved.

I hope this post has been helpful and informative and as always, if you have any questions, contact me at admin@femalepiratecostumes.net !
